Purcell North Georgia Methodist Annual Conference, Roll of Our Dead, 1930. Rev. William Lewis Singleton Rev. Singleton was born Sept. 22, 1860 in White Co., Georgia, the son of John Calvin and Louisa Jane Craven Singleton. His parents were devout Methodists and he united with the Church at Lumpkin Campground at an early age. He received his education at Dahlonega and Emory College at Oxford, Ga. He was licensed to preach Aug. 22, 1887. He was ordained Deacon at Cedartown by Bishop Keener, Dec.1, 1889 and Elder at Cartersville by Bishop Key, Dec. 13, 1891. He was admitted on trial by the North Ga. Conference at Marietta, Bishop McTyeire presiding, in 1887 and into full connection Nov. 30, 1889. He was married twice, the first time to Miss Margaret Dellie Holbrook, Aug. 25, 1897 who died Nov. 12, 1913. His second marriage was to Miss Kate Elizabeth Wright, Aug. 22, 1916. These women came from a long line of faithful Methodists. He passed away at his home in Forsyth county, on Sun. afternoon, June 15, 1930. His funeral was conducted at Midway Church by William E. Purcell, assisted by Rev. L.B. Craft, pastor of Alphretta Charge, and rev. John L. Moore, pastor of Marietta Circuit, with talks from Rev. Belk Godfrey, a nephew, and layman, H.L. Wills, a life long friend. He was buried in the cemetery near the Church he loved so well.
