Hamby North Ga. Methodist Annual Conference Roll of Our Dead, 1930 Rev. John Rhodes Speck His father was Barnhardt Speck and his Mother was Lydia Rhodes Speck. When he was 12 he was converted. He came to Emory College in 1880 and graduated from Emory in 1884. Two days before he graduated from Emory he married Miss Carrie Belle Evans, daughter of Phillip Evans of Woodstock, Ga. Seven children blessed this union, five of whom are yet alive. Henry Martin died at the age of two and John Phillip died in 1925. Those living are Pauline Evans Williams, Howard Haygood, Fannie Mae Andrews, Martha Lucille Ragsdale and Frank Speck. Brother Speck was licensed to preach on May 1884, admitted on trial in North Ga. Conference fall of 1884. He was ordained decon in 1886 and elder in 1888. He was superannuated in the fall of 1903 but continued to teach, preach, visit the sick, stand by the pastor and fight the good fight. His Conference appointments were Hickory Flat, Plainville, Ringgold, Cassandra, Dalton, Hamilton St., Carnesville, Jefferson, Harlem, Maysville, Asbury, Winder, Retired in the fall of 1903. He was a good minister of Jesus Christ.
