Entered into rest on May 23, 1932, Henry R. Durand, at the glorious age of seventy-nine years, the greater portion of which were spent in loving service to his fellowmen. A follower of Christ and His teachings, his every day life reflected that quality of Christianity which brought sunshine into the lives of those with whom he was associated. Gentleness, cheerfulness and forbearance he practiced in his modest, unassuming way, always extending a helping hand to those in need, not only in a financial way, but in friendly counsel and fellowship. From the earlies beginnings of the Home in 1888, Mr. Durand was very much interested in its work and sent food to the children daily. He served on the Advisory Board from 1892 to 1901, and then was elected to the Board of Trustees and as an active member of this Board for thirty-one years was faithful to every duty imposed upon him, acting as treasurer for the last twenty-eight years, and in his quiet, unobtrusive way aiding the Home and the individual children of the Home in many ways. Always to be depended upon in time of need, he was the first to come to the rescue when finances were low and see that the Home had ample resources to care for our hundreds of children. His every thought seemed to be for the welfare of the children of the Home. He loved them all dearly and they in return showered him with such a wonderful love that is the lot of few men to enjoy. Uncle Henry will forever remain enshrined in the hearts of the children who knew and loved him. Therefore, we, the Trustees of the Georgia Baptist Orphans' Home, feel that we have indeed lost a friend, and deeply mourn his passing. Our hearts go out in loving sympathy to his bereaved wife and daughter, and in appreciation of his services and in loving memory of the sterling qualities of mind and heart that endeared him to this Board and the children of the Home. Be it resolved: That this preamble and resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Baptist Orphans' Home on a separate page set apart for that purpose, and a copy sent to the family of our departed beloved member, whose memory we honor, also that The Christian Index be requested to publish these resolutions. Respectfully submitted, Mrs. H. R. Fischer, Chairman Mrs. George Westmoreland, Mr. Thomas H. Pitts. Adopted at meeting of Trustees of Georgia Baptist Orphans' Home held August 3, 1932.
