Two doctors were called who advised removal to hospital. After a few days there, it was decided to have an operation which was performed June 17, when the appendix and gall bladder were removed. He seemed to improve for some days, but on Sunday, June 27, he took a turn for the worse, his heart action weakened, and at 9:50 p.m. he quietly passed away. On Wednesday June 30, the body was moved to the home of Walter King, 2105 Linden Avenue, where funeral service was held. About 175 friends were present and 25 workers. Four do the casket bearers had been his co-workers in past years. The funeral service began at 10 a.m. and was conducted as follows: Opening Hymn 168. Prayer by Willie Webb, Alabama. Then a favorite hymn of Eddie’s – “Ashamed of Jesus, I’ll shall never” – was sung. Fred Kinglake, North Carolina, spoke first from Phil. 2:25. Rev. 3:11. Arthur Benton, Georgia, spoke next from Numbers 23:10 – “Let me die the death of righteous.” Alex Dougal, Virginia, spoke next from psalm 23. Jas. Hamilton, Kentucky, spoke next from II Tim. 4:5-8. Each spoke briefly of the Godly qualities seen in Eddie’s life as a co-worker in the Ministry. At close of service Wm. Richardson prayed after Hymn 374 was sung. The casket bearers were: Lonzo Nealson (his last comp.) Howard Musgrave Jas. Gates Horace Burgess Walter Nelson Young Coleman Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knoxville. At the grave the hymn “Our Brother Sleeps” was sung, and prayer was offered by T. Dennison. Eddie’s passing leaves a great vacancy in the ranks of laborers in God’s Harvest Field. He was a servant much used of God in helping others and was loved by many. We know that as Good has seen fit to take our Brother, we believe He will consider the need of still caring for His people through others whom He may choose.
