M. Howell. Whereas, it has pleased Almighty God, in his providence to call from the active labor of this life, to the rest that remains for the people of God, our beloved brother and friend, Dr. J. M. Howell, and, whereas, we, as a Sabbath-school, feel called upon to give expression to our feelings upon this sad event, therefore, resolved. 1. That in the death of Bro. Howell, the community has lost one of its purest citizens, the church one of its most Godly members, the Sabbath-school cause one of its most earnest advocates, and the Friendship Baptist Sabbath-school one of its most honored and devoted teachers and officers. 2. That though we mourn, yet we bow in humble submission to the will of Him that doeth all things well. 3. That while our own grief is great, we recognize the fact that there are those whose grief must be immeasurably greater. To these, his dear friends, we tender our heartfelt sympathy. 4. That a copy of these resolutions be published in the Index, and also a copy be presented to the family of the deceased. J. S. McGarrah, Ch'm. Com.
