Their children were: James, Abraham, (deceased) Ichabod, Darling W. and the girls were Nancy, Mary Allen Davis, Rachel Guess, Susannah Burgy. Abraham and Mary's children were, David, Joseph, Elizer, Archibald, Gardner and possibly one more girl born c. 1813 There seem to have been many Davis men named Ichabod all the way from the 1600's in William's family in Roxbury (Boston) MA till the two I know about when the name seems to die out. I don't know if it was because of these two, the discovery of the Biblical meaning of Ichabod or perhaps it just fell out of favor. Ichabod (I'll call him the elder) lived next door to Susanna, wife of deceased Gardner in the 1820 census of Jones Co GA. It is possible that Gardner's sons, the younger Ichabod and Darling W., still lived with her, at least they would have been the age of the two males that lived there at the time. Ichabod, elder, bought land from Gardner in 1807, and is found as administrator of the estates of Gardner, William Allen and Jesse Allen along with taking over the guardianship of Abraham's children from James R. Davis. He never filed an inventory that I can find for the estate of Gardner nor does he provide another bond after William Shaw (who provided the original bond for Abraham's children) sues him for money owed to his wife, the former Mary Allen. He files no report on the the administration of the estates of Abraham's children and David and Joseph go to court to ask that William Williams become their guardian. Williams files regular reports on the administration of their portions of Abraham's estate. Around 1820 + or -Ichabod is hammered with law suits over money owed many of the local planters his property is confiscated and sold at the courthouse door until finally the courts mention that he has left the bounds of the state and his belongings are sold with money divided among his creditors. About this time I found that letters started showing up in the PO for Ichabod Davis in Twiggs county and I assumed he had moved there to avoid his problems. Later I came to believe it was the younger Ichabod who married Mary Ann Westbrook, daughter of Thomas and Mary Shine Westbrook. The PO in Marion was known as the Shine PO. In looking for Ichabod the elder I discovered that he patented land in Wilcox Co AL along with Darling W. Davis and both are listed in the 1830 census there. The younger Ichabod moved to Upson with his bride and seems to have learned, like depression kids learned, to hang onto money. He made money as the guarantee on loans for people by taking as payment young slave girls, livestock, money and most anything of value. He also became guardian for many orphans. He served as justice of the peace and state representative for the area also road commissioner. There is a will for an Ichabod that is possibly his but I have not yet ordered the film to see. The only child of his that I feel certain about was named Clarissa Amanda. Mary's grandmother was the former Clarissa Williams who married John Shine. Davis heads of households in Upson in 1830 who lived in close proximity to each other were, Ichabod (younger), Gardner H., Thomas C., Thomas H. and William. Dolphin also lived in the county. Deed records show that Samuel H. Davis, Martha Davis, widow of Jasper County, and Caswell Davis were some of those present early. The Gardner H Davis mentioned here is the son of Owen Davis. Gardner, son of Abraham is seen in the 1850 census of Monroe County while Gardner H. is in the 1850 census of Barbour Co. AL. Shirley Chapman
