F. Walker and his brother, Allen McWalker, jointly owned with their father, James Walker, more slaves than anyone else in Upson County (I forget exactly, but in 1850 the three of them had about 300 slaves). Unfortunately, I am unaware of any personal business papers surviving for any of this Walker family. On the other hand, there is a huge mass of probate papers covering 1849 through the 1870s, because James Walker (d. June 24, 1849) and son Allen (d. June 22, 1849) died within two days of each other and jealous heirs fought over the inheritance for a quarter century. This blesses us with numerous lists of slaves belonging to the estate, covering the period 1851 to 1864. Deed records and probate records are at the Thomaston Upson Archives. I checked my database, and the following persons seem likely matches for the folks you seek. References for Scott: (1) Inventory & Appraisement of James Walker estate, 27 January 1851, Record of Accounts Book C, page 346 (2) Inventory & Appraisement of James Walker estate, January 1856, Record of Accounts Book D, page 405 (3) Inventory & Appraisement of James Walker estate, 11 October 1859, Record of Accounts Book C, page 346 Moriah and her children (in age order from eldest to youngest), Antoinette, Lotty, Alexander, Scott, Esquire [I estimate Scott's birthyear to be about 1848, give or take a year] References for Ader (Ada?): (1) Inventory & Appraisal of Allen McWalker estate, 22 February 1851, Record of Accounts Book C, page 339, 341 (2) Deed for N. F. Walker's share of his and Allen McWalker's joint property, 17 November 1851, Deed Book G, page 435 Ader (described as "an old woman" in 1851) Julia ("Ader's child") David (described as Julia's son) Little Ader (described as "Aders Grand child" in February 1851, and as "Julia's child" in November 1851) Adeline (described as "Julia's infant" in 1851) Ader the grandmother, her child and her grandchildren (the younger Ader would have been the same generation as Scott, probably born about 1849, give or take a year), were allotted to N F Walker as his share of the brothers' joint property: Walker, Scott (slave of Walker, Nathaniel F.) married Ada Walker (slave of Nathaniel F. Walker) on 7/12/1869 The original licenses are at the Probate Judge's office in Thomaston. Judge Hamby's office address is available online, and for a reasonable fee, his staff will copy the record and mail it to you. Be sure to tell them the date of the marriage, 12 July 1869.
