NOTES: Here is the information on Joseph Young Allen and his family that you asked about: Jeremiah Asbury Polk Allen, brother to JYA is buried in Arnold also. We are pretty sure he died in the Confederate Army, but have not found a company or anything about his service. He was the right age and it was the right time. It's possible he was in the state militia. Zachariah's wife was Martha (Mattie) Carlisle. She was a sister to Richard Moses Carlisle who married Mary Ann Elizabeth Allen (this is the second case in my family of brother and sister marrying brother and sister!) She died 30 Nov 1919 in Macon and is buried in Riversided Cemetery in Macon with other Carlisles. Zachariah ("Dock") died 25 Mar 1910. My aunt Amma Crum found this information about Joseph Young Allen in the Macon library about the First Baptist Church of Thomaston: "J. Allen Young Dies: Three times pastor of the church, twice a member of the state's legislative house and once of the Senate, he deserved the description as one of Upson's 'most distinguished and best loved citizens.' After being admitted to the bar in 1869, he was licensed to preach on August 3, 1872, and received ordination on December 31, 1876. A busy law practice never hindered his preaching ministry; thus through the years he served a number of churches other than his own." My aunt also came into possession of a book about Mary Green Allen--grandmother to JYA and in that book it gives this information: "Joseph Young Allen was a Georgia Senator and Representative, Jury Foreman, City Alderman, and Tax Collector in his lifetime. He was said to be one of the greatest Trial Lawyers ever produced in that section of Georgia. He helped to start the Technological School of Georgia and along with being a lawyers and Government Official he was a preacher."
