Go 6.3 Miles & turn left on The Rock Road, then 2.4 Miles. This Cemetery sits beside the Road with a Memorial Marker and an American Flag. The Memorial Marker states " UNKNOWN CONFEDERATE DEAD" UNKNOWN CONFEDERATE DEAD Here lie 12 Confederate soldiers "known but to God" who died of disease and wounds 1864-1865 in the General Hospital, Georgia State Line, located near this spot. Dr. A.P. Brown was senior surgeon in charge of the hospital. Dr. E.A. Flewellen, a prominent surgeon, at one time Surgeon of the 5th GA Infantry Regiment and later Medical Director of the Confederate Army of TN, assisted at this hospital when on sick leave. Dr. Fllewellen's home still stands at The Rock. (Confederate Cemetery 1 mile south of The Rock) Near the Road side is one Marked Tombstone PVT. Thomas J. Penn 1828- Sept. 1, 1864 On top of the hill stands 12 markers in a row of unknown of men who died for this Country. The American Flag is displayed on a pole as a reminder. NOTE: The John B. Gordon Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans in Thomaston GA is responsible for the restoration of this cemetery which had gone negelected for many years. The purpose of the SCV is to honor the memory of our Confederate Soldiers who heard and answered the call to duty, regardless of the consequences and hardship. Respectfully, James E.
