Georgia  Upson County
   To the honorable Thomas S. Sharman- Judge of County Court of 
Upson County.-

The petitioner of Peter P. Butts of said County
showeth that at the time the slaves were emancipated
in said State, your petitioners ordered the
following named freed & has had them ever since &
that he raised them up to the present time, that
they are minors & orphans and destitute of father &
mother or any relatives that are able to take care
of them and they have no means of support.

Your petitioner pray that your honor will bind said
minor orphans to your petitioners until they arrive
at the age of twenty-one years old, respectively
under such rules and regulations as are by the
statue made & provided- the following is the name &
age of said Minor. Viz.

Robert Butts, a boy  19 years old
James Butts, a boy 17 years old
Sam Butts, a boy 14 years old
Caleb Butts, a boy 11 years old
David Butts, a boy  9 years old

    Your petitioners would further show that unless some provision is made for the raising & education of said minors they are likely to become put upon the County, for which your petitioner will ever Pray.
