Witnesseth that I the said Ward for and in consideration of five hundred dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge, hath bargained and sold to the said Sockwell all that tract of land in the sixteenth District of formally Houston now Cafford (Crawford) County, known in the plan of said District by lot number one hundred and ninety two containing two hundred two and a half acres, to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and the appurtenances thereto belonging and I the said John Ward do hereby bind my self my heirs &c to warrant and forever defend the same to the said Sockwell his heirs and assigns in fee simple & against the claims of every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us John Ward {Seal} Robert McBryde A. Card Georgia Jones County Personally came before me Abram Card who being duly sworn deposeth & saith that he saw John Ward sign seal & deliver the within deed for the purposes there in mentioned & that he saw Robert McBryde assign as a witness & he the said Abram does so likewise, sworn to and subscribed this the 19th day of June 1824. Recorded this 28th April 1826 *************************************************************** LDS Microfilm #0282803 Book B, Page 16 Upson County March 8, 1830 Georgia Upson County This indenture made the 8th day of March 1830 between James Sockwell and Irwin Lawson. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum on one dollar in hand paid as well as for the better securing the payment of two promissory notes made by the said James to the said Irwin one for one hundred and seventeen dollars eighteen cents, the other for one hundred and thirty four dollars thirty six cents the first payable on or before the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred twenty seven, and the last the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred and twenty eight, both bearing date of twenty first of October eighteen hundred & twenty six, the said James hath this day bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell & convey unto the said Irwin his heirs, administrators &c one certain tract or parcel of land of land known by No. one hundred & forty eight in the Sixteenth district formally Houston now Upson County containing one hundred & fifty six acres more or less whereon the said Sockwell’s Ferry now is. To have and to hold the said bargained premises to his own proper use benefit & behoof against the claim of the said James his heirs Executors, Administrators &c also every other person or persons whatsoever. This condition of the above deed is such that if the said James shall will and truly pay or cause to be paid the said notes principal & interest to the said Irwin on or before the eighth day of next March then the above mortgage deed to be void and of no effect and to be delivered up to be cancelled as though no deed had ever passed, otherwise to remain in full force virtue & effect. Yonge, Clk ************************************************************** LDS Microfilm #0282803 Book B, Page 23 Upson County September 9, 1828 Georgia Upson County This indenture made this ninth day of September eighteen hundred and twenty eight between James Sockwell of the one part and James Smith of the other part both of said State and County aforesaid. Witnesseth that in and for the consideration of two hundred dollars by the said Smith to the said Sockwell in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do bargain sell and convey unto the said Smith his heirs Executors Administrators &c a certain parcel or tract of land known by Lot No. one hundred and ninety two being and lying in the Sixteenth District of formally Houston County now Upson containing two hundred two and a half acres more or less. To have and to hold the said lot of land unto the said James Smith his heirs Executors and assigns together with all and singular the rights tenements and hereditaments thereunto appertaining and the said Lot of land unto the said Smith his heirs executors and assigns the said Sockwell his heirs Executors & assigns will forever warrant and defend against himself his heirs administrators &c and also against the claim of all and any person whatsoever. Yonge LDS Microfilm #0282803 Book B, Page 284 Upson County February 18, 1832 Georgia Upson County This indenture made this eighteenth day of February eight hundred and thirty two between James Sockwell of the one part and Thomas Beall, John Thomas, James Wittinson and William P. Yonge of the other part all of the County and State aforesaid. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt is hereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain sell and convey unto the said Thomas Beall, John Thomas, James Wittinson and William P. Younge their heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the Second District of Carol County known and distinguished in the plan of said District as Lot Number (51) fifty one ~ together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or any wise appertaining to the said lot or parcel of land ~ to have and to hold the said lot or parcel of land to them the said Thomas Beall, John Thomas, James Wittinson and William P. Yonge their heirs and assigns and to their sole & proper use benefit and behoof forever in fee simple and the said James Sockwell for himself his heirs and assigns the said bargained premises to the said Thomas Beall, John Thomas, James Wittinson and William P. Yonge their heirs and assigns will warrant and defend the same by virtue of these presents against the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever. Yonge Clk LDS Microfilm #0282803 Book C, Page 350 Upson County November 2, 1834 Georgia Upson County This indenture made this the second day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty four, between William I. Williams of the one part and James Sockwell of the other part both of the State and County aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said William I, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to him in hand paid the receipt thereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the aforesaid James Sockwell all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid and known and distinguished in the plan of said County by part of Lot No. one hundred and forty five in the Sixteenth District Houston County originally now Upson containing fifty acres in the south west corner thereof be the same more or less to have and to hold the above bargained premises with all and singular the rights members and appurtenances to his only proper use, benefit and behoof forever in fee simple, and the said William I. Williams, will warrant and forever defend the same from himself his heirs, Executors and Administrators to him the said James Sockwell his heirs and assigns.
