Ward now a citizen of Chambers County, Alabama and for the sum of one dollar to one in hand paid by the said Uretha at and before the signing and delivery of the presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted and conveyed and do by these presents give, grant, and convey unto the said Uretha Ward, wife of the said Richard M. Ward and the legal heirs of her body, but to and for her own use and benefit a negro (sic) girl slave named Edney about eight years old now in the possession of my said daughter to and for her use and benefit during her natural life, and at her death to go to the said legal heirs of her body, nad it is hereby expressly conveyed for her said use as aforesaid and to be in the way and manner subject it to the debts of the said Richard M. Ward, nor to be sold or disposed of by him; in this gift and conveyance of said negro (sic) girl by me to be for the use and benefit of my said daughter during her life-time and to enjoy and to receive the benefit of the services of said girl, Edney and at her death to go to the legal heirs of her body as aforesaid. And I hereby warrant and defend the title of said negro (sic) girl to my said daughter and her heirs in manner and form as aforesaid forever.
