H. FERGUSON of Haralson County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he was born on the 8th day of September 1845, that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia and has been continuously since the 8 day of September 1845, that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or the State of ‘sometime in October 1863') during the war between the States and served as a Private in Company D of the 13th Regiment of Ga. Volunteers Gordon’s Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, and in line of duty in the State of VIRGINIA, on the About 6th day of February 1865, he was disabled or wounded as follows: I received a gunshot wound in the top of my head while engaged in the battle of Hatchers Run near Petersburg. My skull was broken by a minnie ball while charging the enemy. I was paralyzed for about 2 mos. Then I partially recovered but I am not able to do manual labor. My head hurts almost incessantly, I am very often unable to go on account of my head hurting so badly. I never was troubled with head ache till I received my wound. Pieces of my skull came and while the physicians were dressing my wounds. My nerves are badly affected from the wound I received. I never was troubled with nervousness before. When I exert myself or get excited at all, I have no control of myself. My whole system is in a jerk. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved October 24th 1887, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th 1897. W. SNIPES, E. B. THOMPSON, AND G. D. WILMOT personally known to me to be trustworthy citizens, each of whom, being duly sworn according to law, severally say, under oath, that they are personally well acquainted with P. H. FERGUSON whose application is herewith presented for a pension, the he has resided in this State continuously since the ____________day of ________________1860, that he served in Company D of the 13th Regiment of Ga. Vols. Gordan’s Brigade, and from our personal knowledge he was injured by the service as follows: “At the battle of Hatcher’s Run in the State of Virginia in February, 1865, he was shot in the head, breaking the skull and a portion of the skull was taken out.” We personally know above stated facts. We were with him in the army and have known him every since. He was honorably discharged or retired from the service on ________day of April 1865. Applicant is permanently disabled as stated and has been so to our certain knowledge ever since 1865. We have no interest in the recovery of a pension by him. A. Hutcheson, Ordinary of said County, J. T. COBB and E. B. HUTCHESON, both known to me as reputable physicians of said County, who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have carefully examined P. H. FERGUSON and after such personal examination, say that the present condition of applicant is as follows: He has gunshot wound on top of head which fractured the skull causing several pieces of bone to come out. The heavy indenture caused by the wound makes pressure on nerves which causes continual headache together with other paralytic (__?__) which become severe when he attempts to labor. It almost renders him unable to perform any kind of manual labor. We have treated applicant professionally for _________years, and his condition, as above stated, does __________arise from heredity or congenital causes, or from vicious or intemperate habits. B. Hutcheson and W. F. Goldin, reputable physicians of said County who say after a personal examination of PATRICK HENRY FERGUSON, applicant for pension of Haralson County, they find said PATRICK HENRY FERGUSON partially incompetent to perform the ordinary manual avocations of life Which condition is caused from an injury to the head as follows: He received a gunshot wound in the top of the head fracturing the bone causing a considerable portion of the scull bone to become necrotic and to slough and come out causing continued pressure of the remaining portion of the scull bone on the brain and adhesion row resulted causing paralysis which is a permanent character.
