State of Georgia, County of Upson. On this thirtieth day of August in the Year of Lord Eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before Christopher B. Strong, Judge of the Superior Court of the County of Upson and State of Georgia and Flint Circuit in said State now sitting Henry Garland Senior a resident of the County of Upson in the State of Georgia aged seventy years who being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. That he entered the services of the United States under the following named officers and served as herin stated. He entered the service under the Command of Colonel William Linton, and Major John Powers (his christian name he is not positive) and Captain Levi Lane in the militia State Troops of the State of North Carolina abut the first of March in the year seventeen hundred and eighty one and served eighteen months immediately -------- at which expires he left the service, he was also a part of the time of performing said tour of duty under the command of General Nathaniel Greene and under Major Pinckney Eaton and Captain Smith, his christian name not recollected, and he resided in the county of Halifax, State of North Carolina at the time he entered the service. He marched through the State of North Carolina, South Carolina and at Augusta, Georgia. He was a volunteer private soldier. He was under the command of General Greene at the Battle of Guilford in the State in the state of North Carolina and was at the taking and storming of Thompson Fort in South Carolina and was at the taking of Brown & Grayson Fort at Augusta, Georgia at that time under the command of General or Colonel Lee. He was acquainted with the Regular officers heretofore named, and with Colonel William Washington wh commanded a regiment of light horse. He was in Company with the regular company in General Nathaniel Greene; at the Battle of Guilford and those under the command of Lee and Colonel Washington. He has no documentary evidence, and he does not know of any person whose testimony he can procure who can t testify to his service. He hereby relinquish every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.
