War Pension Application: William Black, 1832 Upson County, Georgia Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Linda Hallman http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00028.html#0006914 State of Georgia County of Upson On the thirteeth day of August in the year of Lord eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before Christopher B. Strong, Judge of the Superior Court of the County of Upson and State of Georgia and Flint Circuit in said now sitting William Black a residentof the County of Upson in the State of Georgia aged seventy years who being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named offices and served as herein stated.vz under Colonel Thomas Neal and under the Command of Captain William M. Cullah. He enterd the service in the spring of the year 1778 and served under the foregoing officers three months and twenty days. He resided in York District, State of South Carolina when he entered the service. That he was drafted solider, that he was also part of the time which engaged in the foregoing tour of service under the Command of Col. Henderson, his christain name not recollect, also Commanded part of the said time engaged in said tour of duty by Colonel Samuel Watson. He again entered the service in the summer of 1779 under Command of Captin John Foster in the Horse Company or Mounted infantry and served under said Command a term of three months. He was not under the immediate Command of any Colonel. He resided in the county of Mecklinburg, State of North Carolina when he enterd the said service. He entered said service a a Volunteer private soldier. He was engaged in 1778 that he marched through the State of South Carolina during the time he was performing his first tour of duty. And through the State of North Carolina during the time he was performing in the Company of Col. Henderson under whose Command as aforesaid he has no documentaty evidence. He know of no person whose testimony he can produce who can testity so by his service except his brother Samuel Balck, Senior. He hereby relinguishes very claim whatever to a pension or annity, except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll anther agency of any state.
