State of Georgia, County of Upson. On this the twenty sixth day of February in the year eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appeared before the Superior Court of the County of Upson of the Flint Circuit of the State of Georgia, William Shepherd, Senior a resident oft he county of Upson and State of Georgia aged seventy six or seventy seven years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. That he enlisted in the army of the United States in the year seventeen hundred and seventy seven in the month of August in that year with Captain Benjamin Bevin's Company and Col. John Stewart' Regiment and General. Houstoun's Brigade or Division the number of the company & regiment or line does not now recollect, and that he served for the term of twelve months and left the service in the month of August. He served and was commanded by part of said time by Captain Benjamin Bevins who resigned during that period and William Ayres commanded the balance of the term of service and under the Command of Col. John Stewart for the part of said terms and the balance of said time was under the Command of Colonel Milledge. He resigned in the County Richmond and State of Georgia at the time, he entered the service. He was not engaged in any battle or engagement. His marchs was confined to the the State of Georgia. He never marched beyond the limits of the state except once when they crossed the St. Mary's River and marched into East Florida. He hereby relinquish every claim what ever to a pension or annuity except the present and he declare that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state. Wm.
