John. L. Savage related a very horrifying snake story to the editor of the Thomaston Times last Saturday. According to Mr. Savage's statement was he was plowing a mule on his farm on the old Sidney Barron Place a few miles South of Thomaston some days ago when the mule shied, throwing him near a big rattlesnake which jumped up his leg and struck him in the pocket of his shirt. Mr. Savage thought he had been bitten by the rattler so he blew his whistle for help from his home nearby. In the meantime he got a stick and killed the Rattler. When help arrived he began to examine himself and found that the snake's fangs did not penetrate the skin but there was evidence of poison on his shirt pocket. Feeling greatly relieved Mr. Savage took a stick & pried open the rattler's mouth and to his surprise found that his fangs were broken, which fact no doubt saved his life. Later another large rattler was killed near the same spot. This is one of the most unusual and terrifying snake stories that has come to our attention, but Mr. Savage is a Baptist Minister and his integrity is unquestionable
