Colquitt has commuted the sentence of Mrs. SOUTHERN to ten years in the penitentiary. But he has not done enough yet, and will not have done his full duty until he has pardoned her. It will be remembered that Mrs. Southern was sentenced to be hung in Pickens, Co. for killing one Narcissa Cowart, which we think was perfectly justifiable. Had a man killed another man under the same provocation, there is not a jury in the State that would have decided that the provocation was sufficient to justify the killing. Narcissa Cowart was a depraved creature, separated by her fault from her husband and the outcast of the neighborhood in which she lived.- Was known for her bad character, violent temper and slanderous tongue. She had tried to prevent Mr. and Mrs. Southerner's marriage by a vile scandal against the young lady, she swore if she did marry that she would not let them have any satisfaction and peace. They married. Then she used every womanly art to entice Southern from his wife and had several times succeeded. Mrs. Southern knew all the while of Narcissa's hideous purpose and wicked endeavors to forever destroy her domestic peace and happiness.---The testimony to these facts is overwhelming. The evidence is that Narcissa was a very depraved woman and that Mrs. Southern was a strict member of the Church, and a very truthful, kind-hearted Christian lady. Her Character was without a blemish.
