Upson County’s Veterans
List of Survivors Furnished to Roster Commission

Thomaston, Ga., May 23. - (Special) - A list of the surviving members of the 
ten companies who went into the confederate army and the state service from 
Upson county has been forwarded to Hon. J.W. Lindsay, secretary of the Georgia 
confederate roster commission, by Hon. J.E.F. Matthews, the present ordinary 
of Upson county. The list follows:

Upson Guards, company K, Fifth Georgia regiment, Thomas Beall, captain. 
Surviving members: Dr. E.A. Flewellen, The Rock, Upson county, Georgia; W.X. 
Beall and J.F. Vining, Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia.

Upson Volunteers, company D, Thirteenth Georgia Regiment, J.M. Smith, captain. 
Surviving members: T.S. Sharman, E.B. Thompson, F.J. Reeves, Thomaston, Upson 
county, Georgia.

Upson Sentinels, company A, Forty-sixth regiment, T.B. Hancock, captain. 
Surviving members: R.D. Shuptrine and J.W. Suggs, Thomaston, Upson county, 
Georgia; J.M McFarlin, Yatesville, Upson county, Georgia.

Holloway Grays, company E, Third Georgia battalion (afterwards company C, 
Thirty-seventh Georgia regiment), A.J. White, captain. Surviving members: A.J. 
Williams and J.T. Blalock, Yatesville, Upson county, Georgia; E.H. Bloodworth, 
Barnesville, Pike county, Georgia.

Woodson Guards, company I, Thirty-second Georgia regiment, Thomas O. Heard, 
captain. Surviving members: S.H. Brooks, J.D. Caraway and William A. 
Abercrombie, Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia.

Company D, Second regiment of Georgia Reserves, D.W. Womble, captain. 
Surviving members: L.N. Middlebrooks and T.J. Middlebrooks, Yatesville, Upson 
county, Georgia, and William A. Miller, Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia.

Company F, Ninth regiment of Georgia reserves, James W. Atwater, captain. 
Surviving members: A.W. White, Oliver Walls and W.S. Davis, Thomaston, Upson 
county, Georgia.

Company K, Third regiment of Georgia Reserves, G.A. Cunningham, captain. 
Surviving members: J.W. Smoot and A.W. Kersey, Thomaston, Upson county, 
Georgia.

Company A, Third regiment of Georgia reserves (Lofton’s), E.A. Spivey, 
captain. Surviving members: M.C. Garrett, J.R. Roberts and A.M. Lyon, 
Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia.

Company E, Third battalion of Georgia Reserves, J.W.F. Hightower, captain. 
Surviving members: J.A. Stafford, The Rock, Upson county, Georgia; R.F. 
Bradley, Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia, and J.F. Redding, Barnesville, Pike 
county, Georgia.
