Joseph Young Allen fell on Sleep in the early dawn of Monday, January 8, 1917. He was born in Upson Co., Georgia, June 3rd 1850; baptized into Fellowship of Thomaston Baptist Church by the Pastor, Rev. J. H. Weaver, August 14th 1868; married Miss Rebecca Pruitt of Salem Alabama on November 22nd 1876. His experience of grace can best be told in his own words found in the first item of his Last Will, written in April 1915, in which he says; " My Soul I trust to rest with God who gave it, as I trust and believe in the atoning merit of the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose Salvation has been the comfort and joy of my soul, since I was a little boy, 13 years old. Although my outward life has not always been just what a Christian's life should have been. ' Thus we have his spiritual biography brief but beautiful, a precious legacy to loved one's and friends. NOTES: More info on Rev. Allen. Joseph Young Allen was one of 7 children of my great-great grandparents, Young Asbury Allen (of Wake County, North Carolina) and Elizabeth Chancellor (of South Carolina). His siblings were Gilliam Isaiah, Mary Ann Elizabeth, Jeremiah Asbury, Queen Elizabeth, Zachariah P., and Sara Camilla. I have quite a bit of information on the Allen family, but would love to correspond with anyone with ties to this family. His parents are buried at Arnold Methodist Church Cemetery off Logtown Road. ( I have recorded all the graves in this cemetery, Lisa.) Does anyone out there know where I might be able to find a picture of the church? I know that it burned sometime in the 1920's.
