(John) Bethel, 72, of Macon, formerly of Thomaston, died Sunday morning February 24, in a Macon hospital. Mr. Bethel was a native of Thomaston and had resided in Macon two years. He attended R. E. Lee Institute and was a retired surveyor. He was a Navy veteran of World War 11 and an ex-prisoner of war, captured in 1941 and released in 1945. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. June Ramos Bethel of Macon, one step-son, Ray Edwards of Americus, one sister, Mrs. Josephine Synbrandt of Missoula, Mont. And two brothers, Stamps Bethel of Santa Rosa, California, and Julian Bethel of Lawrenceville. Graveside services were held Monday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston. Dr. Robert M. Hoffmann officiated. Crest Lawn Funeral Home of Macon was in charge of arrangements.
