H. COX of Empire State Guards, Upson County, died in the Hospital at Savannah, on 1st May 1863 in his 34th year..... a kind husband, indulgent father.... left a wife and six children. F.B.D. Lisagraham32@aol.com Note: 1850 Census for Upson County, he was a clerk living in the household of G.W. Ashburn, hotel keeper. He is also listed in the household of Anderson and Margaret Cox. Also says 20 yrs old and clerk. Not sure what the Empire State Guards were, but a William Cox is in the Woodson Guards, Co I 32rd Reg. which was first under Dr. Thomas O. Heard as Co I in the 6th GA Reg. for six months. Also listed in the 1860 Agricultural Schedule for Upson County. 1867 Poor School Records lists several children with parent, Jane Cox.-- Ivy, Freeman, Sally, John, Sleiverias, Peter Possibly this is his widow and children.
