              MR.JOHN WHEELER DOWDY


Mr. John Wheeler Dowdy,74,of 162 S St. died at the Upson
County Hospital Friday,Dec. 13,1985. Funeral services were
conducted Saturday,Dec. 14,at 3 p.m. at Coggins Chapel.


The Rev. Forrest Woodward officiated. Burial was held in
Southview Cemetery. Coggins Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.


Mr.Dowdy was a citizen of Thomaston for 51 years and he had
also retired from the Textile Industries and was owner of
Dowdy's Barbeque for many years. Mr. Dowdy was also a
Mason.


He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Dowdy of
Thomaston;two daughters, Mrs. Doris Oglesby of Thomaston
and Mrs. Gloria Carls of Silver Springs,Md; one son Mr.
Donnie Dowdy of Thomaston;one brother,Mr.Mack Dowdy of
Pitts.Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also
survive.
