A. Drake, whose demise occurred at his home in Thomaston, the 7th of March, 1925, was the son of the late DR. J. CALVIN DRAKE, and Mary Flewellen Drake of Thomaston. He was 63 years of age. His youth was spent in Thomaston, and after going to college at Auburn, Ala., he resided in Atlanta for Many years, in the hardware and furniture business. He loved his old hometown and he always claimed Thomaston as his home, and was a loyal citizen, to the place of his birth and the Masonic order, being a man of good standing. A few years ago, his health failed, and he moved from Atlanta to St. Petersburg Fla., where he went searching for the fountain of health, God's own sunshine, in the land of flowers and beauty. Realizing that his hopes were without avail as to his recovery to health, he begged his good wife to return with him to his dear old home town, and let him spend his remaining days in quietude, peace and happiness. This request was granted. He said he did not crave earthly riches, but he was striving to reach Heaven, where he would have eternal riches. He was a true Christian gentleman, but owing to his timid and reserved nature, he never made outward pretensions. He was a devoted husband, and he had a true help mate, who proved herself faithful to the end. "Her price is far above rubies." Besides his bereaved wife, he left two brothers, J. H. Drake, of Richmond, Va., and A. A. Drake of Houston, TX.; two sisters, Mrs. M. D. Barfield, and Mrs. Martha Drake Weaver of Thomaston, to mourn his loss. He was buried in the Drake lot at Thomaston, Glenwood Cemetery, March 8th 1925. He is gone, but not forgotten, He is not dead, but just away.
