"Jimmy" Gunn Sr. Funeral services for Mr. James A. "Jimmy" Gunn Sr., 63, of Turkey Creek Road were held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Pasley- Fletcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Mr. Gunn died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his residence. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gunn burst into this world Dec. 8, 1940 in Thomaston to land into the arms of his mother, Billie Ruth Gunn and his beloved grandmother, Gertrude Jones. Jimmy's sister Shirley was thrilled with her new baby brother and the two became inseparable. Jimmy's school years introduced him to a new group of people and some became life long friends. In his 20's, Jimmy met Joyce Booth who not only became his cherished wife, but his best friend and soul mate. Theirs was a love that spanned over 38 years and a love which gave Jimmy his greatest comfort and his greatest joy which was never more apparent than this past year through his battle with cancer. It was through Joyce's love and prayers that Jimmy became a son of God. So in tune with the Grace, he shared his love for his Savior with other long distance truck drivers he met along his years on the road. He was a truck driver for J.B. Hunt Trucking Company. He shared his love with any homeless person he had the pleasure to meet and any waitresses along his journey with his church. Jimmy walked the walk and talked the talk. It was also through Joyce that Jimmy gained much love in her family. Joyce's mother, Louise Booth became his dear friend and cook. Oh how he loved her cooking. Joyce's sister Linda had become Jimmy's supportive friend along with Linda's two children, Steve and Karen. All who have shown him love, compassion and have helped in his care this past year. All of Jimmy's children have been a source of pride and his grandchildren filled his heart with laughter, sweet kisses and happy memories. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, mother, father and one son, Ernie Gunn in 1992. He had the love, laughter, a trip planner and gourmet cook in his loving brother, Johnny. They shared the good times and some not so good times and through it all, Johnny was Jimmy's greatest fan. In his early years Aunt Bill Ferguson became Jimmy's surrogate mother and her children, Bunny, Carolyn and Steve became his chosen family. That love lasted throughout his life. Jimmy loved Thomaston so much that when the rest of the family moved to Florida, he chose to stay. To stay in this beautiful town he loved and called home. Jimmy crossed over the rainbow bridge into Heaven and into the arms of his mother and beloved grandmother on June 5. He left many lasting memories and loving survivors. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joyce B. Gunn of Thomaston; three daughters, Mrs. Sandra Bobbitt of Warner Robins, Mrs. Kelly Andrews of Zebulon and Mrs. Lisa Folds of Detroit, Mich.; a son, Mr. James Alfred "Al" Gunn Jr. of Sharpsburg; four sisters, Mrs. Shirley Gunn Oenbrink of Port Orange, Fla., Mrs. Pennie Tucker of Winter Haven, Fla., Mrs. Angela Blair and Mrs. Juanita Green, both of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Mr. John Greene of Inglis, Fla.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Louise Booth of Thomaston; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles in Alabama and Florida.
