A. Means. Dr. W. A. Means died at his home in Hendricks on Tuesday Aug 21st at 6 P.M. after an illness of several months. The news of his death will be received with much regret by his many friends and relatives throughout Upson and Monroe counties, for he was well known, and held in esteem by all. At the time of his death he was about 52 years old, was born in Monroe Co., lived there about twenty five years and then came to Upson Co. where he practiced medicine very successfully, being loved by his patients. He was a good citizen, good man and will be greatly missed, especially in his immediate community, where his helping hand was always ready to serve all that he could in love to them. He was a member of Hebron Congregational Church, loved his church, always met his brethren and his pastor with a warm heart, and was ready to lend a helping hand in spreading Christ's Kingdom on earth. The deceased leavs [sic] a wife daughter, dear old mother, brothers and sisters, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death. In his death the church has lost one of as good men as it had in its fellowship. The funeral serviceswere [sic] held at Hebron Church on Wednesday afternoon at 4o'clock [sic], Aug.22, were conducted by his pastor, W. H. Graham and were largely attended by both white and black. His remains were buried in the cemetery at Hendricks. Dear friends and relatives, remember that our loss is his eternal gain. We mourn his loss but the Lord has given and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled, The boo_ his love has given; And though the body slumbers here The soul is safe in heaven. Jno. W. Mangham.
