He and his wife, Louisa "Lou" Howell Mitchell, are buried in the Rock Cemetery near Granite, OK. His obituary in the Granite Enterprise on June 30, 1922 states: "Deaths, C. H. Mitchell. The inevitable hand of death has reached out again, taking from among us this time one known and revered as a man 'who never swerved from his duty but marched breast forward.' All of his life C. H. Mitchell has striven to do just that thing. Never doubting clouds would break he faced each day with a smile on his face, trusted in the wisdom and mercy of his God, and did his duty as he saw it. No matter how we regret his going the Lord has willed it so, and know it to be good. From his life we will strive to learn a lesson that will better prepare us to meet him face to face in that home beyond the skies where we know he is today. C. H. Mitchell was born in Thomaston, Georgia, Upston [Upson] County, the 28th of May 1848, and at death was 74 years and 29 days of age. He was married the 24th of March 1870 to Louisa Howell and to this marriage nine children were born, seven boys and two girls. Those surviving him today are a wife and seven sons of whom are: G. A., J. M., and B. F. of Granite, J. C. of Abbot[t], Texas, C. I. of Temple, Tex., T. C. of Kansas City, and R. L. of Lubbock, Tex. The two daughters died in early childhood. Husband and wife moved from Georgia to Hill County, Texas 1890 and left that place for Oklahoma in 1898. Mr. Mitchell brought his family to Granite soon after, near which place he passed away the 27th day of June 1922. Brother Mitchell has always been a worker in the church, having been converted at the age of sixteen. During his life he held offices in the Methodist Church at every place in which he lived. For thirty years he was Sunday School Superintendent and Stewart [Steward] in churches of Georgia and Texas. He was a trustee of the Methodist church of Granite when he died. Funeral services were held for the deceased Wednesday at 5 o'clock. Brother Bigbee of the Presbyterian church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Rock Cemetery before a large crowd of bereaved relatives and friends."
