C. H. MITCHELL DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Mrs. C. H. Mitchell, familiarly known as Grandma Mitchell, aged 85 years, died Sunday morning at the home of her son, Marshall Mitchell, living five miles southwest of Mangum. Mrs. Mitchell had been ill for almost a year, and death was not unexpected though of course it came as a shock to her family and many friends. She was born in Upton [Upson] County, Georgia, in 1845. There she grew to womanhood, uniting with the Methodist church at an early age, and was a sincere and devout Christian during her long and active life. In 1870 she was married to C. H. Mitchell, who preceded her to the great beyond about eight years ago. In 1890 she moved with her husband to Texas, and from there to Granite in 1900. Grandma is survived by seven sons, two daughters having died while very young. The sons are G. A. and B. F. Mitchell, of Granite, J. M. Mitchell, of Mangum, R. D. Mitchell, of Sentinel, C. I. Mitchell, of Temple, Texas, J. C. Mitchell, of Mt. Calm, Texas, and T. C. Mitchell, of Kansas City. The latter three sons were unable to get here for the funeral, which took place Monday afternoon from the Methodist church. The remains were laid to rest in the Rock Cemetery beside those of her husband. Mrs. Mitchell was truly a Mother in Israel, and her noble Christian life is an example for all who knew her. The many friends of the family extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones. Additional Comments: Louisa "Lou" Howell Mitchell was the daughter of John Noah Howell and Elizabeth "Eliza" Martin Howell of Upson County, Ga. She was the wife of Charles Henry Mitchell.
