Monday, March 01, 2004 DENT Funeral services for Mr. Woodson Dent, 90, of Spring Street will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the George E. Trice Jr. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Otis King Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Dent died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004 at his residence. Trice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dent was born in Stewart County and moved to Upson County as a young man. He was retired from Thomaston Mills. Mr. Dent was a member of the Lincoln Park Citizen Club and the New Lincoln Park A.M.E. Church. Survivors include his son, Mr. Robert Dent of Thomaston; a daughter, Sherry D. Paige of Augusta; two grandchildren, Ms. Cindy Paige and Mr. Tony Paige; five great grandchildren, Caeshaun, Christopher, Qahiyrah, Xavier and Shatavia; two sisters, Mrs. Claudete Mills and Ms. Bertha Dent, both of Atlanta; two brothers, Mr. Benjamin Dent and Mr. Thomas Dent, both of Louvalle, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Mr. Edward Dozier of Atlanta and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. It is the request of the family that all food be taken to the Lincoln Park Fire Station where the family will be served following the service. Ms. Mangham was born in Pike County and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1957. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor for 34 years. Mrs. Reeves was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo and fishing. She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her sons, Michael D. He was presently serving as deacon at the Fellowship Baptist Church. He worked for over 33 years as Area Ranger for the Georgia Forestry Commission. Mr. Osbolt was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Thomaston, a charter member of the Lion's Club, member of the Pike County Sportsman's Club. He was instrumental in forming and was a chairman of the Pike County Youth Center. Mr. Osbolt loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. WINKLER Mrs. Estelle Pye Winkler, 97, of Oshkosh, Wis., formerly of Thomaston, was buried beside her husband in Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio in a private service. Mrs. Winkler died peacefully on March 14, 2004 at the Evergreen Manor in Oshkosh, Wis. Mrs. Winkler was born Feb. 4, 1907 in Pleasant Hill, Ga., and named Willie Estelle Pye after her father, William Benjamin Pye, and mother, Estelle Norris Pye. She was married to Paul Franklin Winkler, who died March 11, 1975. Estelle's father died when she was only three weeks old, and her mother moved from the farm at Pleasant Hill to nearby Thomaston. There Estelle grew up. All her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Estelle graduated from R. E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, and in 1928 she received her B.S. from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She taught first grade in the Demonstration school of Appalachian State College (now Appalachian State University) in Boone, N.C. for several years, and later in her hometown of Thomaston. She met her future husband Frank Winkler in Boone, and they were married in Thomaston June 25, 1938. Survivors include her sons and their families: Frank (Jr.) and his wife Janet Beers Winkler of Middlebury, Vt. and their children Katharine Estelle Winkler and Johanna Pye Winkler Durrett, and Sarah Beers and Nathan Beers and John Winkler and his wife Gail Ann of Neenah, Wis. and their children Laura and William; one niece, Sara Thurston Williams of Macon and her daughters Sara Thurston McDaniel of Atlanta and Laura Thurston Sirotkin of Athens; and one grand nephew, John Altizer. On Nov. 23, 1993, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Ms. Linneida Cunningham of Thomaston. His commitment to Christ began at an early age when he joined the Concord Baptist Church in Woodland. He later moved his membership to Macedonia Baptist Church in Thomaston. At Macedonia he was ordained as a deacon and served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry. He devoted his life to Christ and worked diligently to serve the Lord. Deacon Childs was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was very devoted to his wife and children. Those who knew him are thankful for the 38 years, one month, three weeks, five days, nine hours and 45 minutes that the Lord allowed him to be with loved ones and the community. He was a native of Upson County and the oldest citizen of Yatesville. He was a master machinist and master cabinet-maker. He was retired from the Macon Machine Shop of Georgia Steel Erectors. Mr. Colquitt was the oldest member of Pine View Baptist Church in Barnesville where he was a life deacon. He was a Master Mason in Pinta Lodge #88, Free and Accepted Masons in Barnesville. "Mr. Gus" was a beloved figure in Yatesville, delighting people with his hobby of crafting reproductions of old structures, some of which can be seen at the Yatesville Library. His work includes a replica of the old grist mill and Yatesville School. He used his skills as a machinist to build a working miniature train which he drove for many years in the Chitlin' Hoedown Parade, entertaining children afterwards with free rides around town. Mr. Gus played the banjo and was considered the town historian. He had an amazing memory for people and dates. In 1998, on his 90th birthday, the City of Yatesville held 'Gus Colquitt Appreciation Day,' celebrating the life of "Mr. Gus" who had given so much to the City of Yatesville. He was presented with a golf cart and spent many happy days 'carting' around town visiting friends. He will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing "Mr. Gus." At an early age she worked for a pepper plant. After the Lord stepped into her life she joined the Woodbury Miracle Fellowship Center in Woodbury where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. "Grannie" was a loving and outspoken person. She enjoyed making home-made quilts. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Sherman Woodard. To this union one child was born, who preceded her in death, Christine Woodard Sullivan. She later united in holy matrimony to the late Grover Smith. She also had three grandchildren who preceded her in death, Clarence Sullivan, Ida Mae Sullivan and Randy Joe Sullivan. On Thursday, March 25, 2004 God called "Grannie" home. She leaves to cherish her memories her six grandchildren, Sherman (Christine) Sullivan, Robert Sullivan, Diane Sullivan, Sandra Sullivan and two that she held dear, Mr. Billy Ray Sullivan and Ms. TeRiser Sullivan, all of Thomaston; 10 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. Catherine Killings of Cuthbert; a nephew, Deacon Aldine Woodard of Thomaston; a niece-in-law, Barbara Woodard of Detroit, Mich. and a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
