This may, in some respects, be compared to the organs which keep the blood of life coursing through mortal veins. These organs, for a time, faithfully serve the master, but alas they too must yield to constant wear. We were very forcibly reminded of this, last Friday by a death that saddened many hearts. The important personage to whom we refer was Mr. Wash McKenzie, reverentially addressed as "Uncle Wash." This honored centenarian came to Upson county when the bloom of early manhood was fresh upon his cheeks, aided in planting civilization here and dwelt amongst this people until the great Jehovah called him to the realm of eternal bliss. "Uncle" Wash's death was not unexpected. The physical machinery that kept his pulse in motion had rendered active service for ninety one years, and it was but natural for his great warm heart to cease its work. But the event was never-the-less sad, and many mourn the pathetic death of relative and friend. The wrinkles that care had furrowed through his brow, the hoary locks that hung about his temples and the snow white beard that fell across his manly breast had won profound reverence, and his Godly walk and gentle nature had gained for him a warm place in the hearts of all that knew him. He was a consecrated member of Antioch church from the early history of this sacred structure and when his temporal existence came to an end, his body was laid to rest in the cemetery adjacent to his favorite place of worship. He died about 5 o'clock Friday, and was buried Saturday. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
