One of Upson's Noblest Sons. Was Treasure of the County Hon. James P.McKenzie,treasurer of Upson county died at his home here Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock after a prolonged illness of four or five years.He was the son of the late Hon. W.D.McKenzie,who for many years was prominent in affairs of the county and a son-in-law of Hon.P.C.King, the present tax collector of Upson county. He leaves a wife ,one young son,four years old;his brothers,Dr. J.M.McKenzie of Thomaston,and Mr. W.W.McKenzie of Columbus;his mother and two sisters who survive him. Jim McKenzie as he was affectionately known by all the people,was a young man thirty -two years old, active and ambitious andstood high as a progressive business man.He was close to the hearts of all classes of people and as proof of the appreciation in which he was held he was unanimously elected treasure of the county in 1902 without opposition and he has continued in the office up to date without the slightest complaint. Besides being distinguished as a polished Christian gentleman, he was noted for the earnest and faithful fidelity which he often displayed for his friends in all walks of life. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church from which his funeral was conducted on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev, M.Dunbar,pastor of that church. To know "Jim McKenzie " Was to love him as a brother.A better ,a purer, a more consistent man never lived. The entire community is in sorrow at his departure and are in deep sympathy with his bereaved and heart-broken loved ones.
