Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Garner died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at her residence. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Garner was a lifelong resident of Upson County and was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired seamstress with the William Carter Company and was also a local beautician. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Garner of Thomaston; sons, David Garner of Macon, Mark Garner of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Chuck Garner of Thomaston; a sister, Ann Garner of Thomaston; a brother, Roy Smith of Sandersville; ;and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. HURSTON Funeral services for Mr. John William Hurston, 84, of Paige Lane, were held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. with Mr. Clarence Whatley officiating. Burial followed in Crystal Hill Cemetery. At an early age she joined the Salem Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her death. In 1947 she united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Lonnie B. Williams and four children were born, one of whom, the late Rev. Albert Williams, preceded her death. Don Helms officiating. Mrs. Beck died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale. McKoon Funeral Home of Newnan is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Beck was born on Jan 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Charlie Pope Milton and the late Callie Edwards Milton. Mrs. Beck graduated in 1954 from Robert E. Lee High School in Thomaston and in 1957 she graduated from Piedmont School of Nursing. In 1966 she served in the medical corps of the United State Air Force for two years. She later received her Masters Degree from San Jose University in California in 1982. In 1998 she retired from Kaiser-Permanente as a Nurse Practitioner. Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Beck. Survivors include her son, John (Melissa) Elliott of Marietta; two grandchildren, Ann Elliott and Preston Elliott of Marietta; sisters, Rachel (Gordon) Mohler of Newnan and Brenda Soehn of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Gene (Frances) Milton of Austell and Charlie F. Mrs. Clem died Oct. 28, 2003. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral was in charge of local arrangements. Mrs. Clem was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Hattisburg, Miss. She was the daughter of the late James and Evilena Fairchild Merritt. Her family and friends will remember her as a devoted wife and mother, community volunteer, excellent cook and gardener, and an avid reader. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of both Thomaston and Lawrenceville, as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she was active in her church circles, garden clubs and Parent Teacher Associations. Her interest and hard work in local politics led to her election as a Gwinnett County delegate to the Georgia Republican Party State Convention. Mrs. Clem was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Clem. Survivors include her daughters, Robyn Brazell of Columbia, S. C. and Susan Jividen of Ocala, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Amaranth, Eastern Star, White Shrine and Tops of Montgomery. Mrs. Leavell was a faithful member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Mrs. Raines died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at the Florida Hospital East. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Raines was born Jan. 7, 1924 in Unadilla, Ga. and moved to Titusville, Fla. in 1958. She was married to Bobby Raines of Titusville who preceded her in death. She was employed as a secretary at the Kennedy Space Center until her retirement in 1974. Survivors include her sons, and daughters-in-law, Mr. Allen and Linda Raines of Longwood, Jeffrey and Brenda Raines of Orlando, Fla. and Jerry and Susan Raines of Acworth; and grandchildren, Sharon, Allison, Kelly, Messica, Jennifer and Kevin. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Oscar ROGERS, 80, of Pineview Drive in the Potato Creek Heights Community of Upson County, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Bentley & Sons Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josephine Rogers; a son, Mr. Fred (Lillie) Rogers of Thomaston; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon (Lamar) Childs of Dublin; brother, Mr. Howard (Betty) Rogers Jr. of Macon; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Lumpkins of Macon; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ollie Mae Whitfield of Thomaston; a brother-in-law, Mr. C.T. Thompson of Thomaston; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a nephew whom he loved as his son, Mr. John Lee Dickerson of Thomaston and several other nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends who will miss him. The family can be contacted at their residence on Pineview Drive. Funeral services for Mr. Wiley L. TURNER, 71, were held Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Pasley- Fletcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Crystal Hill Cemetery. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Turner died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 and the Georgia Bulldogs lost their biggest fan. Wiley was always quick to discuss statistics and the play by play of past seasons games and if you liked the Bulldogs, you were considered a friend. He remained passionate about the 'Dogs" even up to the last few days of his life., Wiley was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Glenwood, Ga. He came to Thomaston at the age of 12. He was proud to be a Georgian and lived his entire life in Georgia except for a short time in Washington State where HE SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMY. Upon his return to Thomaston in 1950, he was employed by B.F. Goodrich Co. where he began as a dolpher and retired as a security guard in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Rosa Turner and his sister, Lorene Smoot. Survivors include his sister, Mary Jo Turner of Thomaston; his brother and sister-in-law, John Albert and Jeanette Turner of Melbourne, Fla.; and his only niece and nephew, Mary Angela and John Albert Turner Jr.
