Fletcher dorothy010@ameritech.net August 23, 2003, 8:02 pm Virginia Crilley Ex-Commissioner J. E. Presley Dies Final rites were held Thursday for J. E. Presley, Sr, 84, former chariman of the Upson County Board of Commissioners and long time leader in the Upson County Singing Convention. Mr. presley died at his residence on South Lee Street Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held at 11:00 o'clock Thursday from the Chapel of Pasley- Fletcher Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Bradshaw officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Herbert D. Morgan. Interment in Southview Cemetery. After a career as an Upson lumberman, Mr. Presley entered politics for the first time in 1955 and won a seat on the Upson County Board of Commissioners. He continued in office until 1962 serving the entire time as chairman of the commissioners. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as president of the Upson County Singing Convention. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Emma Ogletree Presley, five daughters: Mrs. J. T. Salter, Mrs. Forest Corley, Mrs. Walter Daniel, Mrs. Shelly James, all of Thomaston, and Mrs. Ross McDonald of Albany. Five sons: Nolan O., Luther B., Emmett and J.E., Jr., all of Thomaston, amd James Lewis of Roberta.
