Virginia Crilley

Funeral services for E. L. McCarty, 91, of Jackson Ave., were held Sunday, Feb. 
2, at 2:00 in the Chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home.  Dr. Harold Smith 
officiated and burial was in Southview Cemetery.
Mr. McCarty died Jan. 31 in Upson County Hospital.  He was a native of Macon 
County, Ga.,  He entered the grocery business in Ideal, Ga. in 1924 and opened 
McCarty's Service Grocery in Thomaston in 1929 as the owner and operator, 
building a store for the business in 1937.  He retired in 1972 at the age of 
77.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  He was a vereran of 
WW1 and a member of Pete Thurston Post 81 of the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons:  Marion McCarty of Thomaston, and Lewis McCarty of 
Lake City, FL; two sisters; Mrs. Dallas Kelley of Montezuma and Mrs. Pearl Lott 
of Ft. Myers,FL, a brother, Thomas McCarty of Mansfield, Ohio.  Seven 
grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
