Watford was born in Upson County, Ga., October 14, 1882* and died at Ozark, Ala., Feb. 4, 1904. She was twice married, first to Mr. William S. Jones who died in 1866 at Columbus, Ga. Her second husband, Mr. Watford, died in Alabama and during her widowhood she made her home with her brother at Ozark. In her childhood she was a playmate of the late Gen. John B. Gordon whose parents resided near her own in Upson County. She united with the Methodist church during her twelfth year, and thus early began walking in the steps of the Master. She left five children, four sons and one daughter. They are: Messrs. James W. and John J. Jones, of Belleview, Ga., Mr. C.M. Jones of Saginan, Ark., Mr. T.A. Jones of Webb, Ala., and Mrs. Ballie Mixon of Ozark, Ala. She also left thirty- six grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Her pilgrimage was a long one, stretching through many years with their manifold changes of light and shadow, joy and sorrow, and perchance unrest. For some time she had been a constant sufferer and her loved ones and friends can but feel that rest to her is sweet, even though they miss her presence here. Ere her strength failed she was noted for her indomitable energy and devotion to her duty. She had many friends who knew her worth and kindness of heart. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, but she has now reached the end of her life journey and with quiet, folded hands and pulse less heart she is sleeping the dreamless sleep of eternal rest – the sweet rest that comes to those whose feet have crossed the crystal waters of the Beautiful River, and stepped on the silver sands of the farther shore. She bore the cross here; she is wearing the crown up yonder, beyond the golden portals of that fair city whose builder and maker is God. To the loved ones whom she has left behind there is the comfort and consolation that mother is waiting over yonder in the beautiful “Land of the Leaf” with beckoning hands, waiting and watching to welcome them home when, for them the golden hinges shall turn and they too shall solve the great mystery, death. May E. McMillan *Mrs. Watford’s date of death is incorrect probably due to an error in the printing of the article. I’m not a researcher of this family and do not have her correct date of death.
