Bill Cheney, Colored Age 106, Dies Sunday
 
Bill Cheney, colored, age 106 who lived on one of the Peach farms of Matthews & 
Colquitt, known as the Miller place, died Sunday, April 1.
 
He was born in Monroe County, in 1828, a slave of Mr. Acquilla Cheney,  Mr. 
Cheney having been the grandfather of Mr. Ike Thompson of Thomaston.
 
Bill Cheney was married to Mary Martin of Mariwether County and to them twelve 
children were born, only two of whole (correct spelling maybe who) lived to be 
grown. They are Emma Cheney, age 66 and Fannie Cheney, 56. This information was 
supplied by Alf Newman of Manchester, a grandson of Mr. Acquilla Cheney.
