Mal Peters Shot Friday Night and Died Sunday From Thomaston Times A killing occurred in the western part of Upson county on Flint River last week. Mal Peters, a white man was shot at the home of Mrs. Lucindy Worrills on Friday night September 19 and died Sunday. Mrs. Worrills was arrested and placed in jail Tuesday night as was Lon McDaniel, who is held as an accessory. There are two stories as to the killing that is conflicting. According to the statements of the woman to several parties, Peters came to her house early Friday night drunk and tried to force an entrance. He shot through the door and tired to break in with a big rock. He finally lay down on the porch and went to sleep. Later on in the night he awoke and tried to gain an entrance again and threatened the woman. She then took her shot gun, went out the back door and shot Peters in the face. After shooting him she sent for his family to come and get him. Peters died Sunday and the arrests followed. There is also a rumor in circulation that Peters made a statement before he died to the effect that McDaniels shot him and not the woman. It is probable that many new developments will be brought out at the commitment trial. Mrs. Worrills is a woman of 50 years of age. Peters is a middle aged man and had a wife and children. A commitment trial will be held Friday in Thomaston and will no doubt attract quite a crowd. Col. W.Y. Allen will represent the defendants.
