Wednesday, October 01, 2003 A memorial service for Mrs. Annie Evelyn White CARRIKER, 94, of Orange Park, Fla. will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home with Dr, Edwin Cliburn officiating. Mrs. Carriker died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2003 at the Orange Park Medical Center. Pasley- Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carriker was born in LaGrange, Ga. on June 19, 1909. She moved to Thomaston in 1932 and lived here until 1998 when she moved to Orange Park, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Carriker Sr. She was retired from the payroll department of the Thomaston Mills. Mrs. Carriker was a member of First Baptist Church for 68 years. Volunteering was a way of life for her. She helped with serving at church fellowship suppers. She was active in Sunday School, WMU and Jolly Elders. Mrs. Carriker was a charter member of Upson County Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as a pink lady. She was also a charter member of the Thomaston AARP, where she served as corresponding secretary for a number of years and was a member of the Thomaston- Upson Arts Council. Survivors include her son, Joseph M. Carriker Jr. of Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Holliday of Orange Park, Fla.; a brother, Marion (Colleen) White of Forsyth; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great- great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Thomaston or your favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Carriker. Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Orlando, Fla. Mrs. Morgan died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 of complications from lung cancer. Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, of Griffin, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Morgan was raised in Apopka, Florida graduating from Apopka High School. She shortly thereafter went to work for Southern Bell Telephone, retiring from BellSouth after 37 years in 1991. Upon retirement she and her husband loved to travel, both at home and abroad having visited most of the U.S. as well as Israel, Italy, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. Mrs. Morgan served for several years as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin, Georgia. Mrs. Morgan was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Griffin, Georgia, a past member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Thomaston, Georgia where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and a huge supporter of the Knights of Columbus. Lennie was multitalented, proficient in sewing, quilting, cross-stitch, needlepoint and wood painting having won numerous Blue Ribbons at county fairs in and around middle Georgia. Survivors include her husband, Frank Morgan of the Rock; her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Steve Rilea of Mainland, Fla.; stepsons, Mark and Chris Morgan of Orlando, Fla.; granddaughters, Brittany Rilea and Jordan Morgan; grandsons, Andrew Rilea and Mason Morgan; two brothers; five sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Oneida, Tenn. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur with the Rev. Bill Bigger officiating. Mrs. Hale died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003. A. S. Turner & Sons of Decatur is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hale was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Briarcliff Baptist Church. Jackie was an excellent cook and seamstress, had a green thumb and loved to dance. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gardner Semmes Hale. Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Douglas HARRISON Sr., 79, of Douglasville, formerly of Georgetown, Ga., were held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Kent Funeral Home Chapel in Eufaula, Ala. with the Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. Burial followed in the Georgetown Cemetery. Mr. Harrison died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness. Kent Funeral Home of Eufaula, Ala. was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Harrison was born July 23, 1924 in Alexander City, Ala. He was the son of the late William J. and Mary Magdalene Mask Harrison. Mr. Harrison had lived in Douglasville for the past year to be near his children due to failing health. He had lived in Georgetown for 21 years prior to that move. He was a member of the Georgetown Baptist Church and loved his Sunday School class. He was a Master Mason of the Will Fitzgerald Lodge #726 of Georgetown. He had previously been named Mason of the Year and had served as past Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #462 of Eufaula and served two terms as Worthy Patron. Mr. Harrison was a member of the Shriners Temple of Albany, Ga. and served as a Merritus member of the Directors Staff. He retired from the ATF in 1979 at age 55. MR. HARRISON WAS A WWII VETERAN HAVING SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMY. Mrs. Poore was born in Troup County, Ga., but lived in the Barnesville area for many years. she was a homemaker and was a member of Pine View Baptist Church. Mrs. Whittle died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 in CAMC General Hospital after a short illness. Bea was born in Stockholm, Calif. She was the daughter of the late John and Hazel Gillis. She spent most of her childhood and early adult years in Staten Island, N.Y. Bea was a member of the Partner's Class at Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston, W. Va. She was a devoted wife and mother who served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a storekeeper first class during World War II. She received her bachelor of science degree from Mary Washington College and became a schoolteacher. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, J. Donald Whittle, formerly of Thomaston; a daughter and her husband, Dr. Mavis and West Garrett; grandchildren, Tyler, Delaney and Melanie; and a son, Dayton Whittle, and his family, Mary and Crystal.
