Ex-Commissioner J.E. Presley Dies
     Final rites were held Thursday for J. E. Presley, Sr., 84, former chairman of the Upson county board of commissioners and a long-time leader in the Upson County Singing Convention.

     Mr.  Presley died at his residence on South Lee Street Tuesday morning.

     Funeral services were held at 11:00 o’clock Thursday from the Chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Bradshaw officiating.   He was assisted by Rev. Herbert D. Morgan with interment in South View Cemetery.

     After a career as an Upson lumberman, Mr. Presley entered politics for the first time in 1955 and won a seat on the Upson County board of commissioners.   He continued in office until 1962 serving the entire time as chairman of the commissioners.

     He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as president of the Upson County Singing Convention.

     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Ogletree Presley, five daughters:  Mrs. J. T. Salter, Mrs. Forest Corley, Mrs. Walter Daniel, and Mrs. Shelley James, all of Thomaston, and Mrs. Ross McDonald of Albany and five sons:  Nolan O., Luther B., Emmett and J.E. Presley, Jr., all of Thomaston, and James Lewis Presley of Roberta.

     One brother, Reese Presley, Thomaston, twenty-four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren survive.
