"UNCLE BILLY" STEPITENS DEAD 
Was Oldest Man in Upson County. Highly Esteemed. Thomaston, Ga , August 26 —
(Special)
—William Stephens, familiarly known as "Uncle Billy" Stephens died at his 
residence at The Rock, Ga., about 7 o clock yesterday evening. Uncle Billy was 
one of the pioneer citizens of Upson, the oldest man in the county, being 91 
years of age at the date of his' death. He was a veteran of the Indian wars, of 
the Mexican war and of the war between the states. He has long been a prominent 
and influential figure In the affairs of this county and his name and memory is 
held In the highest esteem and respect. Most of his life was spent at The Rock 
while engaged in a farming and mercantile business. He has outlived all of his 
children. but leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn his 
loss. He was burled near The Rock at 2 o'clock today, Rev, J B. Holland 
conducting the exercises.
