Jack, with a younger brother, had been sent to the pasture with the cows. They turned them in and after they had done so the Bull attacked them striking Jack in the back with his head, the shock it is believed, breaking the boys back and neck. After knocking the boy down, the animal butted him on the ground. The younger brother and some other boys near ran for help but when it arrived Jack was breathing his last and died in a few minutes. The funeral and burial of the young boy were held Saturday morning, the funeral taking place at the Baptist church in Thomaston, and the remains being intered in Glenwood Cemetery. The sudden and horrible death of the young boy was a great shock, not only to is parents and family but to all the people of this community. The people of the community deeply sympathize with Mr. Shumate and family in the sudden and sad death of their loved one.
