In Memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith who passed away Friday,
January 7, 1916. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John Starling; was born in Washington Co. Dec 12, 1824.
Moved to Upson Co. early in life.

She was married at the age of 15 to B. F. Smith. They
lived together about 16 years and had seven children born
to their home when he sickened and died leaving her to
care for the children. In a short time she was married to
G. W. Smith and they lived together several years and six
children were born to them when he went to the civil War
and there died, leaving her the Mother of 13 children of
whom only 7 are living today.

She went through the struggles of war and suffered the
loss of one son slain on the battlefield and others
wounded. Through all these battles she kept her eyes on
Jesus. Jesus was first in her life, the Golden Rule was
her motto. She lived 51 years as a widow.
