Smoot, Who resided near Smyrna Church in the northwestern part of Upson County, about 9 miles from Thomaston, died at 4:40 o'clock Saturday afternoon, the 13th day of December 1913, and was buried the following Sunday at Foster's grave yard, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Gideon Horne, of Meansville. Mr. Smoot left surviving him his widow, Mrs Sarah Rebecca Smoot, and the following children to wit: Robert J. Smoot, Mrs. Anna Minter, Miss Emma Smoot, Mrs Fannie Morris, Charles T. Smoot, Mrs. Minnie Alexander, Orbert Smoot, Ester Smoat (sic), Mrs. Daisy Alexander, and Grady Smoot all of Upson County. Mr. J. W. Smoot enlisted and served two years in the war between the states in company K of the 3rd Regiment of Georgia, Reserves, George A. Cunningham, Captain. He was on the Soldiers pension roll of Upson County. ________________________________ ======================================================== ============ Note: According to Mrs Minnie (Smoot) Alexander's daughter, Foster's grave yard is now Smyrna Cemetery. The word "Smoat" is written over in felt pen to spell "Smoot". The words -- "Mrs. Minnie Alexander" - is underlined with felt pen.
