She had been sick for a week or ten days with fever and everything done possible for her but to no avail. The funeral and burial occurred Tuesday afternoon at Hendrix, the service being conducted by Rev. Bowden of McDonough, assisted by Rev. R.E. Rutland. The exercises were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. Miss Starling was just entering into young womanhood being about twenty years of age. She was a bright Christian character and was a consistent member and great worker in the Methodist church and Sunday school. The deceased was one of the most valued members of the county's teaching force having had charge of the Long Branch school. Miss Starling was formerly a pupil in R.E. Lee and was well known in Thomaston and highly esteemed. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the people of the county in their great bereavement. =============== In Loving Memory of Bessie Starling On the early morn of May 22, 1914 while friends and loved ones were anxiously watching, the death angels visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Starling and claimed a rare pearl. At the age of Ten, she united with the Methodist church and lived a consistent member, until called to join the church on High. She attended school at R. E. Lee Institute, her work being her highest order. She began teaching in Pleasant Valley. Nov. 1914 . Bessie had been with us only 20 summers, and to view her life from a human standpoint, we would say it was incomplete, but no life is so incomplete, but that it so consecrated to God as was hers. She leaves parents, Grand-parents, six sisters and three brothers, besides a countless number or relatives and friends to mourn for her, but heaven seems nearer since the spirit of our darling is gone. The funeral services were conducted by Revs. L. G. Bowden and R. E. Rutland, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Hendricks Cemetery, to await the final resurrection.
