Fletcher dorothy010@ameritech.net June 12, 2005, 9:49 am Virginia Crilley Mr. Samuel J. Torbert, age 64, passed away at his residence Tuesday evening, May 2nd, 1933. Mr. Torbert had been in failing health for several months. He was on of Upson's most beloved pioneer citizens, son of the late James and Betty Duke Torbert, also pioneer citizens of Upson. He leaves his widow who was Miss Leonora Simonton before their marriage. Four daughters, Mrs. G.L. Jones, Mrs. Jennie Jenkins and Mrs. Malcon Davis of Thomaston, and Mrs. J.A. Lassiter of Jacksonville, Fla. Three sons; G.E. Torbert of Barnesville, O.B. Torbert of Silvertown and Frank D. Torbert of New York City. One sister, Mrs. J.T. Elliston of Temple, Tex. and one brother, James Torbert of Waco, Tx. Eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral was held at the residence Thursday afternoon with Rev. Thos. R. Moreland and Rev. J.M. Tumlin officiating. Interment in Gleenwood Cemetery.
