Thomaston Time
This is an obituary from the Thomaston Times, Friday, April 8, 1994 for James
Anthony "Pete" Vining.  James Anthony "Pete" Vining was born May 28, 1909, the
son of Charles Stewart Vining (1869-1959) and Hattie Smith Vining (1869-1948). 
He was the grandson of Anthony Garnett Smith, Jr. and Elizabeth M. Smith of
Talbot and Upson Counties, Georgia.  He was a noted historian for the Smith family.

Mr. James A. (Pete) Vining
 
Funeral services for Mr. James A. (Pete) Vining, 84, of 701 Thurston Avenue were
held Friday, April 8, 1994 at the First United Methodist Church.  The Rev.
Richard B. Long, Dr. Harold Smith and the Rev. Joe Bowen officiated.  Burial
followed in South View Cemetery.
 
Mr. Vining died Wednesday, April 6, 1994 at Upson Regional Medical Center.
 
Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 
Mr. Vining was a native of Upson County.  He worked with Thomaston Mills for 47
years and retired as the head of the Accounting Department.  Mr. Vining was a
veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army Air Corp.  He was a charter
member and former Commander of the Stanford Ellington VFW Post 6447.  He served
for seven years on the Thomaston City Council.  He was secretary of the
Executive Board of the First United Methodist Church and treasurer of the Pine
Valley Girl Scout Council.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Thomaston
First United Methodist Church.
 
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna L. Vining of Thomaston; a daughter, Mrs.
Marie Pettet of Marietta; son-in-law, Mr. Clyde Pettet of Marietta and a
granddaughter, Ms. Kelly Pettet.
