This is a photograph of Joshua Calhoun Howell of Upson County, Georgia and Hill
County, Texas.  
 
Joshua Calhoun Howell was born June 12, 1862/1852 in Upson County, Georgia, the
son of John Noah Howell and Elizabeth "Eliza" Martin Howell.  He married Adalade
"Addie" Smith Howell (1865-1951) on December 24, 1890 in Upson County.  Joshua
and Addie came by train to Texas where they purchased a cotton farm in Hill
County.  He also served as a schoolmaster of the Gholson schools for a time. 
They joined the Methodist Church in West, Texas on April 17, 1892.  He is buried
in Bell Springs Cemetery near Abbott, Texas;  his mother and his brother
Donaldson G. Howell are also buried in this cemetery.
