She was a beautiful, very popular teacher at the Jeff Davis School in Thomaston and she married Ploomer Jackson Day on December 28, 1924 in a ceremony at her parent's home. The ceremony was solemnized by Ploomer's brother, Rev. Lon L. Day. On November 18, 1925 she gave birth to a son, Austin P. Day, who sadly only lived for six hours. Only three weeks later, December 6, 1925, Winifred died from complications due to the childbirth. Ploomer was killed in an automobile accident one year later, November 17, 1926.
