Stanfield (page 19) This indenture made and entered into this eight day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred & forty eight between John Stanfield of the County of Monroe and State of Tennessee of the one part and Clancy Smith, Sarah E. Smith, Masa H. Smith, Isel J. Smith, Mary Ann Colquitt & William Colquitt all of the County & State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth. Whereas We the said Clancy Smith, Sarah E. Smith, Masa H. Smith, Isel J. Smith, Mary Ann Colquitt & William Colquitt have for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged sold & by these presents does sell and Convey & Confirm unto the said John Stanfield his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Monroe and State aforesaid and in the pine woods it being on which the late John Smith lived & died and the same on which the aforesaid Clancy Smith now resides and known by Grant from the State of Tennessee as the south west quarter of section down range two township first east of the meridian and adjoining the lands of the aforesaid John Stanfield & W. F. Swain to have and to hold unto the said John Stanfield his heirs or assigns forever in fee simple and the title of the beforementioned land we said subscribers our heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend unto the said John Stanfield his heirs and assigns in testimony (page 20) whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals her day and date beforementioned Clancy x Smith (seal) Attest mark Thos. Stephens Monroe county ] clerk of the County Court of the County aforesaid ] Thomas W. Johnson & James Hubbard the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing deed of Conveyance who being first sworn depose and say they are acquainted with Clancy Smith, Sarah E. Smith, Masa H. Smith, Isel J. Smith, Mary Ann R. Colquitt and William Colquitt the bargainers to the within deed of conveyance and that they signed and acknowledged the same in their presence to within act and deed and the day it bears date.
