Tucker tuckarb701@bellsouth.net December 4, 2007, 3:44 pm Family The News-Free Press, January 29, 1981 Obituary: William Clifton Spurgeon William Clifton Spurgeon, 70, of 9 Crabtree Road, died Wednesday evening, January 28, 1981 in a local hospital. Mr. Spurgeon, born in Scottsboro,Ala., had been a north Georgia area resident for the past 30 years. He was retired from the Container Corporation of America. Mr. Spurgeon held membership with the Chickamauga First Church of the Nazarene. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Chandler Spurgeon; a son, James David Spurgeon of LaFayette, Ga.; a brother, C.H. Spurgeon of Florence,Ala.; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Willingham of Sheffield,Ala.; two grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 30, 1981 in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. A.F. Chappin officiating. Interment will follow in Goose Pond Cemetery in Scottsboro,Ala. Active pallbearers will be Larry Dawson,Edgar Dawson, Ronnie Boak, Kenneth Sharp, Billy Sharp and Ray Sharp. Honorary pallbearers will be the Georgia State Patrol. Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
